The Chelsea Hotel, NYC

The lobby of the Chelsea in 1972. Home to Dylan Thomas and Bob Dylan, who sang of staying up for days there writing “Sad Eyed Lady”. Leonard Cohen sang about a special meeting with Janis Joplin there. And how about that lovely couple Sid and Nancy? Check out Larry Rivers' “Dutch Masters” canvas on the rear right wall, by the door leading to the bar. Great bar, by the way.

Ethan Hawke directed his first feature, Chelsea Walls, in 2000. It captures a bit of her very soul, Kris Kristofferson and Tuesday Weld included---could you ask for anything more?
